my style journey

Part I (2024):

Honestly, when I first heard about the Style Analysis appointment offered by House of Colour, I thought it was just "one more thing" to sell. I felt like I knew what my best colors were and I can find my own pieces I like without someone telling me what I like.

After solidifying my place in the Instagram color community, and seeing what others were learning from their style journeys, I slowly became a little more intrigued. I was still buying pieces that didn't seem quite right, but I couldn't figure out why. They were definitely my colors, but sometimes I felt unsure wearing them. Weren't my best colors supposed to make me feel my best?!

I decided to make an appointment with my same HOC consultant for style analysis. I was so excited about the appointment after hearing the questions she was asking and the types of information we would go over. She asked me to send photos where I loved my outfit and ones where I didn't feel great. I shared a little bit about what details and styles I like on my Instagram and got SO many comments suggesting I might be Ingenue. That had honestly never crossed my mind, so I was even more excited to arrive at my appointment and learn "all the things".

Followers and other color community creators would message me saying they felt like style was even more important than color, which frankly blew my mind. The anticipation was really building as my appointment got closer and closer!

Let me tell you this: they were not wrong.

If I had to choose one service to recommend, it would be so difficult to say but I would probably pick style.

I'll wait in case you need a minute to recover from this (haha)

...

You learn SO much and I don't want to give it all away here, but the absolute power and confidence that comes from understanding your unique body architecture and personal style is next level. My consultant also flipped a switch in my brain about alterations. I had never had anything altered except a couple of special occasion dresses, but she helped open my eyes to small changes that had HUGE impacts on fit and style.

I am still very much in the middle of my style journey. My current phase is having a good understanding of what works for my body architecture, but still striking out a lot when buying items online that end up not fitting well. I'm doing a lot of returns these days (oof). But! I know just like with color, I will become more and more confident as I do some trial-and-error.

Part II (2025):

When Tiffany (@highchromalife) shared about their newly launched Cosmic Harmony Style system I was so intrigued. Tiffany intentionally built a system that was different in every way! Breaking down body type and gender norms, the Cosmic Harmony system is for all bodies, all styles, all personalities, all walks of life. I was DEEP in the HOC style world which is heavily influenced by body shape and proportions, with personal style preferences coming second.  While I had learned so much foundational information from my HOC analysis, I still didn't feel like I was 'getting it' 100% with my style. Some outfits were winners, some weren't. I purchased some new types of items I didn't have in my wardrobe previously, but then felt stuck with how to style them.

Tiffany approached me with a short opening where they could squeeze me in, so in less than two weeks we went from starting the questionnaire to completing my analysis. It was a whirlwind and the absolute most fun!!!

My 'Cosmic Cocktail' is Curator - Icon - Alchemist.  These are primary, secondary and tertiary style archetypes, with Curator being my primary. Tiffany has tons of amazing information on Instagram about these styles if you want to learn more!

As part of my service package, I received a curated Pinterest board that showed me ways to blend my essences together and I was absolutely blown away. It felt like everything I ever loved combined with things I didn't know existed but loved at first sight. Seeing the pins made me think 'I can wear that!' 'I can be that person'. It was like a mirror shining back at me, showing me all the things I wanted to be but didn't have the confidence, knowledge or tools to become. In my review of the service and system, I said "it's like a guided journey into the uncharted territories of your authentic self, expressed through style. Instead of saying 'you fit into this box with these other people', the Cosmic Harmony system said 'I crafted this space just for you.'" My results helped me break out of cages and rules I had confined myself in, either from the way I grew up, trends, insecurities, and other style systems that told me I "should" like something.

I am still exploring, pinning, and window shopping post-results. I have added many items to my closet and purged (twice!). I feel like I have a much clearer image of what I am looking for when I shop, and it has made saying 'no' so much easier. In fact, I went shopping with a friend to an actual mall (I know, so crazy right?!) and had more fun that I've had in a long time. We made the rule 'love it or leave it' and it was so freeing to easily say 'leave it' when something didn't check all the boxes. Tiffany says to ask yourself 'does this item carry its weight?' - does it hold its own against other pieces you love or wear all the time? It is such a powerful question to ask and the truth is, so many items don't hold their weight, which is why we keep looking until we find them!

For now, I am so pleased to have both my HOC and Cosmic Harmony style results. While the systems are vastly different, I am finding ways to combine the results and information into something that feels authentic to me.

My Style Stats:

Overall, I am petite (5' 2") with an "athletic" build and tiny, wide feet

Body type: Soft curve upper body/soft straight lower body (HOC); Romantic (Kibbe, self diagnosis)

Face shape: round, medium jaw angle, short neck length

Body proportions: smaller at hip (wider at bust/shoulder), shorter "leg half" (longer "body half")

Clothing Personality: Ingenue Romantic (HOC); Romantic - main essence, Dramatic - stronger complementary, Classic - lower complementary (Kitchener, self diagnosis); Cosmic Curator - Icon - Alchemist (Cosmic Harmony)
