What to wear (by season)

Before color analysis, chances are your wardrobe was influenced by the weather season. Rich browns, rust red, mustard yellow might be worn in fall. During summer, maybe you leaned into bright and neon colors. After your color analysis, you may find ourself 'missing' dressing for the season.

While it is important to remember that your best colors are the same all year long, it can be fun to use what's happening outdoors as inspiration in your wardrobe. Below you'll find some suggested colors to infuse into your outfits each season.

Suggested color palette: ice aqua, light gray, shocking pink, light emerald, acid yellow, ice blue, ice hyacinth, lagoon blue, ice lavender

Spring brings sprouting grass, budding flowers, birds returning from hibernation, and rain. We draw inspiration from these to build a spring-inspired palette.

Suggested color palette: acid yellow, light emerald, shocking pink, turquoise blue, cerise, scarlet, raspberry, electric blue, lagoon blue

During summer we have long days, hot weather, pools, vacations and (hopefully) bright blooming flowers. This is a great time to really lean into those very bright, vivid, and almost tropical feeling colors in the Winter palette.

Suggested color palette: royal purple, stone, burgundy, dark emerald, navy, gray, mole, fuchsia, royal blue

Raise your hand if you're a 'recovering Autumn' like me! I had completely convinced myself I was an Autumn and dressed like it for years. While I do still have a soft spot for mustard yellow, I'm finding new joy in building 'Autumn-like' ensembles during fall. Burgundy is a no-brainer here. I also like stone, mole and royal purple because they mimic some of the Autumn swatches.

Suggested color palette: indigo, ice blue, burgundy, stone, pine green, ice pink, damson, carmine, charcoal

Ah, Winter - our 'home' season. But not all of the Winter colors feel like winter, right? With the short days, long dark nights, snow, ice, and general gloom that can come with winter, it doesn't always feel appropriate to be donning cerise pink or acid yellow!

I like to reach for the deepest and iciest colors of our palette during the cold months.

But, if my best colors are the same all year long, how can I change my outfits to reflect these seasonal palettes?

Great question. You do have to get a bit creative, especially if you want to always keep your best colors as tops (which is a personal choice, not something you "have" to do!). Let's look at some examples specifically for burnished or sultry winters. Assume the largest circle is a top, the medium circle is a bottom and the small circle is shoes/accessories/makeup.

See how each of those combinations still 'feels' seasonally appropriate? Each of the large circles are colors that most darker Winters will rate at least 50% or 2-stars, if not 'wow' in.
